Before I tell you the story of Jess and Raj, you should know that they had one of the most emotive, energetic, fun weddings of my 2017 season. It was an absolute blast to document and to get to know their families.
These two beautiful souls met in Casablanca on a vacation with mutual friends. They were in the same grad school program but officially began their friendship while exploring Morocco. Not a terrible way to begin a love story, I say! They fit together seamlessly and balance each other out in life. A perfect match.
Raj proposed to Jess the night before they moved into their Manhattan apartment. In an empty room filled only with romantic candle light, Raj asked Jess to spend forever with him.
They always wanted a destination wedding but didn’t want to have to travel too far so that many friends and family would be able to come with them. They fell in love with the timeless, European vibe at Hacienda Sarria in Kitchener, Ontario and knew it was the perfect place to say I do.
The wedding weekend began with a rehearsal dinner at The Walper Hotel in Kitchener. Every single one of their guests came in from out of town, with many even travelling from Taiwan to be there! I knew after documenting their rehearsal dinner that the wedding would be filled with beautiful details, amazing food and deep belly laughter.
On their wedding day, Jess and Raj shared an emotional first look that even got me tearing up behind the camera. It had rained in the morning but cleared up just in time for portraits. Their ceremony featured a mix of traditions, beginning with a tea ceremony and continuing with the Aarti and Saptapadi. Weddings rich with intent and tradition are truly an incredible experience to photograph.
Thank you Jess and Raj for being such wonderful clients and for welcoming us with open arms! Big thanks to my fabulous second shooter Paula for documenting this day with me.
